Today we’ll be speaking about some very important questions that you need to be asking your home inspector when you have them come out and inspect your property, or your potential property. It is important that you find a home inspector that will do the job properly and give you a full run down of everything that needs to be done, should be done, and things that can wait to be done. Here are three things that you need to think about before hiring the right home inspector.
- Look at their credentials. NJ licenses Home Inspectors, please make sure they are licensed. You need to ensure they are professional, responsible, and most importantly, legal to inspect the house. There are state of NJ websites that have the names of the licensed inspectors.
- Review their experience. Everybody has to start out somewhere, but you’re better off picking a more experienced inspector. They will be more familiar with structures, as well as different builders in the area. They will most likely know exactly what should be done for a property, and will most likely know all of the proper codes right away, without needing to look up to see what they are. Consider it is a strong benefit to choose someone that lives in the area.
- Pick an inspector that communicates well. Written reports are required in NJ, so you need to have someone who can communicate well in writing and in person. There are many things that you’ll have to discuss with the inspector in order to determine if the house is desirable or not, so pick someone that you’re comfortable with and able to communicate with. We have a 22-year history with many inspectors and will be happy to supply a list of names of inspectors that past clients have enjoyed working with. Your attorney is also a good source for a referral.
You will find it beneficial to do a little homework before hiring someone for this important undertaking.
